Abstract

Cabbage is a vegetable that belongs to the Brassicaceae family, and is among the most consumed in Brazil. It is a crop tolerant to acidic soils, and adapts well to soils rich in matter organic. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate how different substrates influence the initial development of cabbage seedlings. The experiment was carried out under cultivation conditions greenhouse, in the municipality of Coronel Vivida, PR. The design used was entirely randomized trial (DIC), with five treatments (commercial humusfertil agricultural substrate, commercial humus Humusfertil, cattle manure + soil, sand + soil and soybean hulls + soil), with four replications, totaling 20 plots. 50 seeds of cabbage cultivar capitata were sown per plot, where the height of the plants, root size, germination percentage, days to germinate and the quality of fertilizers organics that were used. Seedling height and root size are related to composition of substrates, where the choice of substrate for seedling production is important and will contribute to the nutrition and physiological development of the plant. It has been shown that commercial substrate and humus commercial are good alternatives in what is expected in relation to the quality of seedlings, but also manure bovine + soil and soybean hulls + soil are viable alternatives and define the quality of seedlings.
