Abstract

This work identified the stereotypes about Chemistry presented by students of the 1st and last year of high school. The research subjects were 48 students of a public school from the North Side of Aracaju / SE. The data were collected through questionnaires in December 2014. We found the association of chemistry and experimentation, as a science that studies the matter, with applications in daily life and it is difficult to understand. On the chemical profile presented by the students, it was observed that it is a subject predominantly male. Students of 1st and 3rd year had different views about the chemical work. For students of 1st year work is isolated. To the students of the 3rd year the work is done collectively. The difference between the concepts of different school levels students show the importance of the role of school and teacher for the deconstruction of the stereotypical image of the students.
