Supervised Curricular Internship: the role of the supervisor in the professional training of the production engineering student

Abstract

Internships aim the development of competences specific to a given course and links theory to practice. Thus, this article aims to contribute to the discussion around the importance of the internship supervisor in the training of the student. It is understood that it is critical to the internship guarantee, as an educational act, a link between the educational institution, the teaching mentor, the internship coordinator, the trainee and the internship supervisor. However, this study unfolds itself in subsidies that support the internship supervisor as a partner to ensure a quality professional training, being able to develop, in the trainee, the values and responses to the demands inherent to the labour market. The study was conducted at the Celso Suckow da Fonseca Federal Center of Technological Education - CEFET / RJ in the second half of 2015 with a sample of 55 students enrolled in the supervised internship subject of the undergraduation degree in production engineering. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The results show that students are satisfied with the guidance received from their internship supervisors, and it was also observed that the supervisors are committed to the educational process involved in the professional practice.
