Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the geomorphological evolution of southern sand spit from the Patos Lagoon. The spits are projections towards the beach into the lagoon and can be considered one of the features responsible for the reorientation of the shoreline. A study involving alteration of the shoreline, which was an important element geomorphological high spatial dynamics resulting from responses to coastal processes of different magnitudes and frequencies. The study was conducted using remote sensing , with results showing that the feature is in an erosive period, but with a tendency to growth evidenced by the longitudinal growth of the spit with average erosion offset values of the coast line of 2,11m/ year and 64 750 m² of eroded area.
