Abstract

Morphological characterization of the reproductive of the Jatropha curcas is key to understanding the process of seed formation. The objective of this study was to describe morphological characteristics of inflorescences and flowers in accessions of Jatropha curcas L. The study included 190 accessions of the Active Germplasm Bank of Jatropha curcas L. This Germplasm is located in the wilderness of the Paraiba. We evaluated morphological in 2811 inflorescences. We observed that the flowers are pedicellate, diclamides and diplostemonous. His disposition is cyclical, arranged in concentric circles, with a single female flower at the center, surrounded by several male flowers. The number of flowers ranged between 1 to 125 male flowers and 0-18 female flowers per inflorescence. We conclude that there wasn’t morphological divergence in the characteristics of female flowers between accessions of Jatropha curcas L., of the Active Bank Germplasm. The CNPAPMVII access Jatropha curcas L., presented inflorescences with staminate flowers of anomalous characteristics: atrophied, lacking pedicel, absence of reproductive structures and located in pedicel of the female flowers.
