Abstract

Hydroxyapatite has been investigated widely in the field of the medicine and dentistry. For being a biocompatible material, it can be used in the formulation of inorganic sunscreens. The use of sunscreen is extremely necessary due to the exhibition in the sun long term can provoke skin cancer and other diseases skin. In that work through a reaction of precipitation Fe3+ -doped HAP was produced. Fe3+ was incorporated to the material to generate absorption in the area of the ultraviolet. The results of X-ray diffraction show the obtaining of the phase hydroxyapatite. Optical absorption of HAP with Fe3+ was evaluated and the analyses proved the incorporation of that ion in the head office of the material. Transitions of the Fe3 + were identified and discussed. The results point to a potential use of the Fe3+  -doped HAP as active ingredient of a sunscreen.
