Phytosociology of a stretch of tropical rain forest in Sustainable Development Reserve Uacari, Carauari, Amazon

The Amazonian region has been suffering for decades improper human interference, being intensified in the last twenty years, demanding a perspective of socio-economic recovery more elaborate and consistent, including aspects of the knowledge of its biodiversity. The aim of this study was to know the phytosociological structure of the tree component of a stretch of dense rain forest, located in the community Pupunha belonging to Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve, located in the municipality of Carauari, Amazonas, in order to obtain information about current situation of forest fragments, whichmay be established for conservation and preservation strategies as well as base the formulation of research aimed at disseminating knowledge and its application to sustainable production. The forest inventory was conducted in an area of 275 ha, which was cut by three transects, totaling 4.436 m. Plots were installed in 20 m x 25 m, interspersed along these transects. The distance between plots was 50 m, totaling 66 sampling units, equivalent to 3,3 ha of sampled area. All trees that showed circumference at 1.30 m above the ground (CAP) ≥ 25 cm were identified and measured. It was enrolled 3.050 individuals belonging to 133 species, 93 genera and 49 families. The species with the highest absolute density were
Eschweilera odora, Pouteria guianensis, Inga sp., Licania oblongifolia, Maquira guianensis, Xylopia nitida and Eugenia paraensis. The ten species with the highest importance value were Eschweilera odora, Licania oblongifolia, Pouteria guianensis, Inga sp. Xylopia nitida, Maquira guianensis, Eugenia paraensis, Virola multiflora, Protium heptaphyllum and Licania canescens. The combination of this information will enable local residents to know the potential of natural resources on their properties and assist in developing future management plans on a sustainable basis.
