The Creche Seara contribution to healthy nutrition of children from 1 to 5 years, in the municipality of Santarém, Pará, Brasil

The study was developed in an institution that aims to improve the quality of life of children, especially those whose families are in a situation of social vulnerability, the nursery Educational Center João de Barro (CEJB) maintained by Associação Santarena de Estudos e Aproveitamento dos Recursos da Amazônia (Seara), in the municipality of Santarém, Pará. This study aimed to describe the educational, cultural and socio-pedagogical developed in CEJB and identify the profile of volunteers/professionals working in the nursery. As for methodology, research is a case study of quantitative and qualitative approach, which was used for observation, semi-structured interviews with professionals who work in childcare, as a director, coordinators, teachers and nutritionist, and later application a questionnaire to 23 volunteers to learn more about the work carried out in the nursery and developed educational practices. The staff is wide and diverse, from the volunteers, there is the participation of parents, NGO members called "Friends of Germany" and a nutritionist. It was noted the importance of integration of educational institutions with the families of children to develop to promote health practices. Therefore, educational activities about healthy eating developed by the nursery are contributing to combat the deficiencies and food shortages in many low-income children of the children attended the nursery, as well as the guidance of parents and guardians of children who are cared for continuities of good practice food at home.
