Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of mucus presence at the time of timed artificial insemination (TAI), and reuse of intravaginal progesterone devices on the conception rate of Nellore cows. There were used as experimental model 299 multiparous cows divided into two groups, treatment 1 and treatment 2 (T1 = 150 females and T2 =149 females). Both groups underwent identical hormone treatments, however  in T1 new devices progesterone (P4) were used, and in T2 second use dives were used. There was no statistical significance to the data among the groups studied (p>0.05). Mucus presence did not differ between groups being 43.33% in T1 and 50.34% in T2, as well as reuse of intravaginal P4 divices. Conception rate was 76% in T1 and 75.84% in T2. It can be concluded that the presence or absence of mucus did not affect fertility of these animals, as well as P4 devices can be reused in eight days protocols without compromising the conception rate.
