The Serra da Gruta Nepheline-Syenite Stock is intrusive in granulite gneiss terrains of Itabuna-Salvador-Curaçá Orogen, in the southeastern portion of the Southern Bahia Alkaline Province. Using the Pb-Pb evaporation method zircon crystals a sample of cancrenite nepheline syenite sodalite was dated and give the age of 724 ± 5 Ma, which is interpreted as the minimum age of crystallization of this rock. This age overlaps with those obtained in other mineralized areas of this province and confirms the model that proposes the beginning of the rift system in southern of the São Francisco Craton are occurred at 700 Ma.
