Characterization of goat in sergipana milkmaid region

This study aimed to characterize the socio economic profile of goat in the sergipana milkmaid region, were properties analyzed in sergipanos 13 municipalities (Nossa Senhora da Glória, Poço Verde, Simão Dias, Macambira, Lagarto, Campo do Brito, Pinhão, Itabaiana, Canindé de São Francisco, Capela, Aracaju, São Cristóvão and Malhador). A questionnaire were applied to obtain information related to owner’s social indicators, physical indicators of property and systems of animal husbandry, involving aspects of the production, handling, health and reproduction. The results showed that the educational level of the majority of owners (42.85%) is only incomplete elementary, a predominance of small farms (less than 10 ha.) With high use of labor, family labor (47, 61%) and low use of periodic technical assistance (14.28%). The herds are made up mostly of animals breed (95.23%), predominantly semi-intensive production system (76.19%). All animals received the same supplementation (85.71%), regardless of their category and age. There is the presence of diseases such as skin abscesses, diarrhea (57.14%), cough (52.38%). In the reproduction, it is used the natural mating (66.66%), causing reproductive wear of animals. Therefore, it was found that the dairy goat developed in municipalities of Sergipe is basically a subsistence farming, with reduce use of new technologies in production and lack of system organization.
