Abstract

A floristic survey and taxonomic identification of species of liverworts (Marchantiophyta) and mosses (Bryophyta) were performed at the Protected Area of Buriti do Meio, municipality of Caxias, at the state of Maranhão, Brazil. The results were divided between these two groups of plants. For the mosses, 14 species, 10 genera and 8 families were identified. For the liverworts, 2 species, 2 genera and 2 families were identified. These are the first results about the occurrence of bryophytes at this area, which requires additional information and plant collection in order to expand the knowledge about the occurrence of these plants at this protected area.
