Evaluation of the profile of dengue epidemiological the municipality of Paripiranga, Bahia, Brazil

This study aims to describe the profile of epidemiological of dengue in the municipality of Paripiranga, state of Bahia/BA. This is a descriptive and observational study of quantitative character, made from data collected by surveillance in the same city, in which individual characteristics and serum-epidemiological of dengue cases confirmed from January 2008 to April 2012 were evaluated. Analysis was established by data saturation, the Excel program and the presentation of the results was done through tables, which allow extracting database from Local Information System for Notifiable Diseases, relevant information about the phenomenon was used study described in accordance with the individual attributes, the final classification criteria for confirmation and clinical course. Of the 512 reporting forms and investigation of suspected dengue cases, 362 were confirmed. The years 2008, 2009 and 2012 were characterized as epidemic by elevating the incidence of dengue in the city. In relation to the final classification, the prevalent cases of dengue fever. With the introduction of serotype 4 of dengue in the city, the possibility of increased severe cases, because in the period 2008-2009, large numbers of people were aware about these serotype 2. Dengue showed a seasonal pattern with a higher incidence in the first half of each year, and the epidemic is a clear indicator that it is necessary to implement an effective program of vector combat in the municipality.
