Reference values of the hematological and biochemical parameters in the rats (Rattus novergicus Wistar) from the vivarium of the University Tiradentes

The various physiological parameters of laboratory animals may diversify between different strains of a given species but also by intrisec and extrinsic factors. Therefore, it is imperative that each Research Center to establish reference values for animals according to the species, the diet, the lineage, the sex and age as well as the methodology used to analyze the parameters. The aim of this study was to determine the range of reference values for hematologic and biochemical parameters of non-treated animals from the University Tiradentes vivarium, Sergipe, Brazil. Healthy Wistar rats were used (140-310 g) of both genders. The hematological profile (leukocytes: total and differential, RBC, hemoglobin, hematocrit, some hematological indexes and platelets) and serum biochemistry determination of several parameters (aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total protein, albumin, globulin, urea, creatinine, glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid, potassium, sodium, chloride, gamma-GT, calcium) were evaluated. Research data provide reference values for creation of Wistar rats, thus contributing to several projects of experimental research.Downloads
