Abstract

Biodiesel is a renewable source of energy able of powering engines using diesel, can originated from different oilseeds such as sunflower, castor, palm oil. Among the technologies employed are noteworthy transesterification and hydrogenation. In the latter case the hydrogen gas and the material to be hydrogenated are either mixed with divided solid catalyst. An important study around the hydrogenation kinetics refers to the process being employed kinetics of pseudo-first order in relation to triglycerides and Langmuir - Hinshelwood model to determine the reaction rate of the fatty acids. This paper aims to develop a kinetic model to experimental data obtained in mechanically agitated reactor, PARR type in laboratory scale. The kinetic model was adopted and the coupling could satisfactory describe the profile of the concentrations of fatty acids against time, obtaining R2values above 0.94.
