The advent of "Millennials Generation": media consumption and the journalism students of the Federal University of Sergipe

This article aims to verify the extent to which journalism students of UFS can be framed in the "Millennials generation" and how this fact implies in their consumption of media and news. Therefore, we established the following specific objectives: identify what generation they belong; identify the profile of consumption of traditional media (newspaper, radio and television); identify the consumption of digital media; identify the main source of news (printed newspaper, internet, mobile and tablet), analyze the unfolding of media consumption in the process of teaching /learning. The research was based on questionnaires containing thirteen open and closed questions applied to journalism students of UFS enrolled at discipline "Communication Theory I", mandatory and taught in the first period, between the years 2007 to 2013. From 402 students enrolled, 311 responded to the questionnaire. The research, with quantitative and qualitative character, allowed the observation of different aspects of learner profile that were compared to statistical yearbooks, reports and national and international documents and allowed better understand the characteristics of the students and draw some of the strategies of teaching / learning that must be followed in view of the context of media consumption and online news production in different devices.Downloads
