Abstract

Despite knowledge of the productive potential and adaptability of jenipapo in various tropical regions, there are few studies on this species. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different culture media on in vitro germination of jenipapo seeds. Seeds were obtained of ripe fruit of jenipapo natural population from Oiteiros city at Nossa Senhora do Socorro, SE (accession OIT) and tested different variations of MS salts and sucrose: T1) MS + 30 g L-1 sucrose, T2) MS + 15 g L-1 sucrose; T3) ½ MS + 30 g L-1 sucrose; T4) ½ MS + 15 g L-1 sucrose and T5) 0 MS + 0 sucrose. All the treatments were gelled with 4.5 g L-1Phytagel®. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with five treatments and four replications. All variables were subjected to analysis of variance and compared by Tukey test at 1% probability. There was a significant effect of culture media for the percentage of sprouted explants in vitro, shoot length and time of in vitro culture. It was observed that in the absence of salts and sucrose was higher germination percentage and lowest shoot length compared with the other treatments.
