Reduction of edge effect by unifying environmental reserves in Uruçuí - PI.

Abstract

This study evaluated the reduction of edge effects in fragments of forest reserves, private property, the unification of reserves soybean farms in the hills of Uruçuí, Pirajá date in the southern state of Piauí. This work was carried out two research fronts: the first sought to distribute the legal reserve areas for each property individually, leading to a final map with the distribution of reserve areas throughout the area. The second study, already adopted by producers for indications of the agency, the allocated reserve areas in one place forming a large mass of vegetation, was then prepared a map of where it was possible to see the distribution and the benefits made ​​possible by such technique. It can be concluded that the unification of the mountain forest reserves Uruçui, PI, caused a reduction of the edge effect, with respect to distance from the center of the fragment and the formation of ecological corridors. On the other hand on the form factor there was a very elongated for the fragment, a fact that may increase the edge effect.
