Knowledge about the statistics of forest fires is important for implementation of prevention strategies in Brazil and the lack of information of this nature, causes regions such as southern Piauí become vulnerable. The implantation of a fire brigade in Bom Jesus, PI appears to be the starting point to reverse the regional framework. Therefore, the aim of investigation was analyzing data on the occurrence of forest fires in that city, in the first year of implantation of the Brigade Municipal Fire Fighting and Prevention Forest. The results indicated a wide variation with respect to the period of occurrence of hot spots, % of area and type of vegetation affected among other factors. The description of the data possbilitou a good diagnosis of the profile of forest fires in the city in 2010, and is essential for proposing the intensification of prevention and control of forest fires in the region.Downloads
