Cimentos Portand’s Factory: Environmental Impacts and Management of Environmental Conflicts in Bairro América (1975-1984)

The purpose of this research is to study the coming environmental impacts of the Cimentos Portand’sfactory – installed on Aracaju at 1967 – and the actions of the America District residents’ neighborhoodto disable her, happened between 1975 and 1984. The methodology used in this research is based in thecollection of data through interviews with registrations or oral recording with old residents of the AmericaDistrict and former-employees of the cement factory, as well as, community and religious leaderships thatacted in the process of organization of the local population. They are still being collected, time documentsto investigate the repercussion of the conflicts happened in the neighborhood, in the search of moreinformation regarding the performance of those organs and of the positioning of the society on thesubject. This research looks for contribute for the rescue of the memory of one of the facts of greatrelevance for the studies in the area of Environmental History of Sergipe.Downloads
