The growth of the elderly population in Aracaju (state of Sergipe, Brazil) and the transition of the age structure are evidenced by changes in health profiles. The aim of the present study was to establish the clinical-epidemiological profile of the population in the Industrial District of the city of Aracaju as base for the implementation of future preventive and health promotion actions. One hundred thirty-three male and female individuals between 20 and 94 years of age were interviewed. The Bioestat program was used to determine central tendency measures and the percentage distribution of the following variables: age group, body mass index, sedentary lifestyle, smoking habits, gender, race, marital status and blood pressure. No direct association was found between sedentary lifestyle and obesity. The population in the neighborhood studied is undergoing a process of demographic transition and is mainly represented by individuals between 40 and 60 years of age. The epidemiological profile reveals that the population is represented by sedentary, obese, non-smoking males and females without hypertension. The largest portion of the population is made up of Mulattoes and married individuals.Downloads
