In Brazil, by federal decree, the watershed is legally recognized as a planning unit, because it is the ecosystem and morphological unit that best reflects the impacts of anthropogenic interference. As for the spatial planning activities, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has proven a useful tool for presenting the interaction and analysis of different information layers that make up a landscape. The work aim was to conduct an physiographic analysis of Forqueta river basin, RS, through the use of cartographic data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). To obtain the net drainage from Forqueta river basin, the army planimetric maps were scanned and georeferenced in Idrisi software. For physiographic analysis it was chose to use the data in vector format, due to higher precision and practicality. It was performed the basin linear and areal analysis. The Forqueta river basin is 6 th order, with a relatively branched system and has an elongated shape, which indicates a lower probability of flooding. Drainage density is low, with 1,23 km /km², indicating that the rocks of the study area are permeable.Downloads
