Infestation of seeds of Vachellia farnesiana (L.) Wight & Arn. - Leguminosae-Mimosoidae by Bruchidae: Coleoptera

Abstract

The forest species have, in general, the characteristic of spreading through self-bole. This means that the seeds need so they can perpetuate itself. A major problem so there is this perpetuation seed predation, which are attacked by insects in general. Although they are few species of insects that cause damage, some can cause damage. The Vachellia farnesiana (L.) Wight & Arn is a species of trees and shrubs of the family Leguminosae that occurs throughout Brazil, including the Region of Plaster Pole of Araripe, Pernambuco, where we collected the seeds of this species to assess damage caused by insects of the family Bruchidae (Coleoptera), in which it was realized that these insects caused damage in most of the seeds collected. But there was also that these insects were parasitized by a wasp species (Hymenoptera). Evaluating the infestation this way the seeds V. farnesiana by these beetles and natural control has been accomplished in them.
